Located at Oval 11 Aughtie Drive Lindsay Hassett Oval Clarke Shields Pavilion, Albert Park VIC 3206, the South Melbourne District Sports Club is a community-based sports club that provides opportunities for kids, young people, and adults to develop their sporting skills and participate in various competitions.
With a proud history and tradition, the Bloods senior footy team dates back to 1912, and senior aths dates back to 1936. The club has close links with the Sydney Swans through its historical connection to South Melbourne.
The club operates from the Clarke Shields Pavilion in Albert Park Reserve and uses nearby ovals and other spaces within Albert Park Reserve and the City of Port Phillip through partnerships, which we provide to each sport and the community for use.
The South Melbourne District Sports Club was registered in 1990 as an incorporated association with the purpose of promoting and encouraging sports in the community. The club is managed by a committee made up of executives, including the president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and a representative from each sport.
Through each sport, there’s an extensive off-field program of social activities and events that foster friendships and goodwill within the community.

South Melbourne Football Club “Hellas” is a soccer club located at 31/36 Aughtie Dr, Albert Park VIC 3206. It has a rich history dating back to the late 1950s and early 1960s, and it has grown to become one of the best boutique football stadiums in Australia.
The formation of the South Melbourne Hellas Soccer Club was completed over two amalgamations. The club was formed via the merger of three different Victorian soccer clubs in Hellenic, Yarra Park, and South Melbourne United in August 1959 and early 1960.
Economic uncertainties at both Greek clubs, combined with poor performances, made both Greek clubs see the benefits of uniting. Attempts at Greek soccer club amalgamation had been made in late 1958 and early 1959 but had proven to be unsuccessful.
The Greek community in Melbourne was also at the time expressing the need for a strong and united club in the Victorian State League, in order to glorify Hellenism and the cause of Greeks in Australia. The amalgamation allowed the club to achieve this goal and it has since become a beloved institution for the Greek community in Melbourne.
South Melbourne Football Club “Hellas” is not only a soccer club, but it also boasts an awesome view of the city skyline. The club is home to the FIFA Oceania Team of the Century, and it is a good honest club which has been around for decades.
The club is a source of fond childhood memories for many Melbournians who watched South Melbourne FC with their grandparents and friends. The club also has excellent food and service.
Located at 30 Aughtie Dr, Albert Park VIC 3206, Spartans Basketball was established in 1951 with Arch McGrechan as the original President. Since then, it has become a top-tier basketball club with a proud history of excellence.
From 1958 to 1982, Spartans conducted competition on courts 1, 2, 3, and 4. In 1957, the club purchased shares in Basketball Stadiums Victoria, and soon built the iconic Albert Park Stadium.
The operations of Spartans Basketball are second-to-none. The club conducts 10 courts of competition on Tuesday night, Grades A to F for men and women, and an additional 6 courts of competition on Wednesday night for Grades A to F for men and A & B for women.
Spartans Basketball offers a quality domestic competition for men and women on Tuesday nights, with trained score table officials, 2 referees, and uniform hire facilities provided. The club is committed to enriching the life of Victorians living in the Metropolitan Area of Melbourne by contributing significantly to the recreational and sporting needs of the community through the conduct of quality basketball competitions for senior men and women.

Located at 31 Aughtie Dr, Albert Park VIC 3206. Established in 1895, the Victorian Athletic League (VAL) has a rich history in the professional running of Australia. The sport began during the gold-mining era, where miners raced against each other for the gift of a gold nugget offered by the local publican or mine owner. Big money and heavy betting attracted both talented athletes and shady characters. By the early 1890s, the sport was in crisis, and the need for a controlling body in Victoria led to the formation of the VAL on April 15, 1895.
Originally administered from Stawell, the VAL formulated rules and regulations for country towns that conducted sports carnivals. In 1902, the VAL established a regular office in Melbourne and began promoting professional running. Carnivals were held in major Victorian towns, and they became increasingly popular with the sporting public. A dispute over prizemoney in 1917 led to the formation of a breakaway group, the Victorian Athletic Association, which conducted events in opposition to the VAL. The two organizations merged in 1921, and the VAL extended its reach beyond Victoria, staging World Sprint Championships in the 1920s and 1930s.
After World War II, the VAL gained strength, with nearly 1,500 registered runners and conducting sports carnivals at 70 centers across Victoria from mid-November to early June. However, by the early 1960s, interest in professional running waned, and the number of registered runners declined. In an effort to revive the sport, the VAL invited international athletes to compete in Australia. In 1969, the St Kilda club staged the richest footrace in the world, with a first prize of $2,000. In 1977, the VAL underwent significant administrative changes, becoming an incorporated company, establishing a computerized record of handicaps and results, and commissioning the use of an electronic race finish recording machine.
In recent years, the VAL has extended its athletic format beyond club carnivals, conducting special events such as the famous Dandy Dollar Dash at VFL/AFL football matches, the Moomba Mile run down Bourke Street in the Melbourne CBD, 400 meters series’ during international cricket matches at the MCG, and sprint events during horse races at Moonee Valley. In 2001, the VAL moved offices to be co-located with Athletics Victoria at Olympic Park in Melbourne. The VAL began forming a strong alliance with Athletics Victoria through formal affiliation, sharing resources, and establishing a dual-registration process. The VAL is still located alongside Athletics Victoria, Little Athletics Victoria, Little Athletics Australia, and Athletics Australia at the purpose-built athletics facilities at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park.”
Y Rowing Centre is a renowned rowing club located at 34-38 Lakeside Dr, Albert Park VIC 3206. The club has a rich history in promoting rowing for women and has achieved great success at the national and international level.
The ‘Y’ Rowing Centre has been instrumental in popularising rowing for women. In 1979, its members made history by representing Australia at World Championships, and a Lightweight Four recorded Australia’s first success at the international level.
The Y Rowing Club attends several regattas across the state and interstate and has had tremendous success at state and national levels in recent years. Whether it’s Head, Sprint, or Masters events, the Y Rowing Club offers an opportunity for all interested individuals to participate.
For those who are not interested in racing, the Y Rowing Club also offers an active social and beginner squad. Members can enjoy the beautiful lake and a peaceful atmosphere while getting a great workout.
The Y Rowing Club is dedicated to the safety of all children at the club. All coaches and senior club members hold current Working with Children checks, and the club has adopted Rowing Victoria’s Child Safe Policy.

The club has a rich history that dates back to the 1950s, when it was known as the ANZ Bank Football Club. Today, the Falcons, as they are popularly known, are affiliated with the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) and have over 70 senior clubs under their umbrella.
The Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) is a Melbourne-based competition that encompasses all of greater metropolitan Melbourne. With around 3,500 registered players, the VAFA is the epicentre of amateur football in Australia. The association has grown from strength to strength over the years and now boasts an extensive network of senior clubs.
The Albert Park Football Club has seen several relocations over the years, but has now settled in the state-of-the-art Beaurepaire Pavilion on Oval 20. The clubrooms boast an impressive range of facilities, including training grounds, gymnasiums, meeting rooms and more.
