With a mission to promote positive outcomes for people with disabilities, DSR has been working with various stakeholders for 60 years, including community organizations, sporting associations, local and state governments, and partners.
DSR offers various education programs to raise awareness of disability and promote inclusivity, such as the WheelTalk program, which reaches over 10,000 school children annually, and training opportunities for the sport and recreation sector. Established in 1883, the Fitzroy Football Club has a long and rich history. It was a founding team in the Victorian Football League in 1897 and was the first to win a VFL grand final. Fitzroy is the only club to have played in the VFA, VFL, AFL, and VAFA, and has won premierships in the VFA, the VFL, and the VAFA.
Today, Fitzroy Football Club is a strong and vibrant community club in the heart of Fitzroy. It fields men’s and women’s teams in the largest community football competition in Australia – the Victorian Amateur Football Association.
At home games, the men’s and women’s seniors run onto the ground to the sounds of the Club’s much-loved VFL/AFL theme song. The song is belted out by every team after every win, and every team proudly sports the Fitzroy guernsey.
Now incorporated with the Fitzroy Reds, the Fitzroy Football Club has created a new and loyal fan base in the hipsters who crowd ‘Hipster Hill’ and the families who surround the ground on game days. Fitzroy first fielded a women’s team in 2015, in partnership with the Australian Catholic University, and expanded to two teams in 2016.
