How Much Should Cleaners Get Paid?

Reading time: 1 Minutes

Recently, we received a request to quote a client for twice-weekly cleaning services. Currently, they are paying $365.00 per month, which translates to $45.62 per visit.

Let’s unpack this. Imagine cleaners having to complete the following tasks at the very minimum:

🅿️ Finding parking in a busy Melbourne street.
💲 Paying $7 an hour for parking.
🚶‍♂️ Walking to the workplace.
🛠️ Setting up their tools.
🧹 Cleaning the kitchen, toilet, emptying bins, vacuuming, and mopping.
📦 Packing up and securing the building.
🚶‍♂️ Walking back to the parking spot.

It’s reasonable to estimate that this process takes about 90 minutes, equivalent to $23 an hour (after paying $7 parking).

When factoring in fuel costs, administration work, and customer service, the time they actually need to work without being on the ground cleaning, the actual earnings diminish.

The question is:

🛠️ How sustainable is their business?
💲 How much is left to invest in themselves to improve?

It’s essential to consider what we are truly supporting and the value you place on the vital services in any aspect of what we do.
